Wesley Chapel, FL - Tampa Bay Juniors Hockey Club finished their opening week training camp for the 2018-2019 season this past Friday. This year’s training camp consisted of intense on ice practices Monday through Thursday, and concluded with the annual “Intrasquad Game” on Friday afternoon.

The Red team skated away with a 6-2 victory over the Blue team. Red’s goals came from a mixture of returning veteran players, as well as incoming rookies to TBJ. Last year’s Elite team top scorer, Mark Louria(Sarasota, FL), lead the way with two consecutive goals. Newcomers Tyler Schaeffer(St. Louis, MO), Evan Sivets(Medina, MN), Jackson Drysdale(Tampa, FL), and Tommi Reunamäki (Tampere, Finland) also tallied goals for the Red team.

The Blue team saw goals from returning players Zach Slezak (Naperville, IL) and Jack Mazur (Trinity, FL).

The Intrasquad Game was played with high pace and intensity. The overall feel from the game wasn’t that of a preseason game with a mixture of players that haven’t played together previously, but rather that of a playoff game. Chemistry, camaraderie, and tenacity were prevalent already in training camp, boding well for the rapidly approaching season opener.

TBJ opens up the season at home against the Florida Eels this Saturday, where they will look to put the past two weeks’ hard work on display. Elite starts off with a 2:15pm puck drop at Florida Hospital Center Ice. Premier’s season opener follows immediately after, with a scheduled puck drop at 5:00pm. Sunday both teams will head to Fort Meyers to face the Eels in their rink. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00pm and 3:15pm for Elite and Premier, respectively.
