Winter Showcase wrap up

The Tampa Bay Juniors Premier team opened the 2020 portion of the season with a 3-0 win over a strong Springfield Pics team.

After a scoreless first period, Derek Walker broke the deadlock on a wonderful setup from Aaron Frenkel and Garrett Sandberg. Zach Puterbaugh would find the back of the net on the power play, less than 3 minutes later. Aaron Frenkel finished off the scoring with an assist from Stanley Lucas.
Cade Kujawski stood strong in net with a 24 save shut out.

Sunday morning’s game against the Steele County Blades saw 7 different goal scorers for TBJ, with Frenkel and Lucas each picking up 2 apiece.

The evening match up against the Twin City Thunder brought a back and forth game through 2 periods, and the opening minutes of the 3rd. A string of questionable penalty calls against TBJ put Twin City on the Powerplay, where they took full advantage. The Frenkel-Lucas-Reed line combined for 9 points as they accounted for all 4 goals.

Monday’s match against the high scoring Aviators proved to be too much for the depleted TBJ side. New York found themselves with a 3-0 lead before TBJ made a late push in the second frame to pull within one goal. Scoring, again, came from the Frenkel-Lucas-Reed line in the form of 3 goals.
The trio finished the weekend with 9, 10, and 6 points respectively.

The Tampa Bay Juniors Elite team opened the 2020 portion of the season with a matchup against the Boston Bandits. Tyler Moschella stopped 23 of 24 before the overtime period began. The Bandits made quick work of a power play opportunity and finished the game just 21 seconds into the extra frame. Justin Walker picked up the lone goal, with assists from Greenway and Olson.

Saturday’s evening game against the Jersey Hitmen saw Ryan Bahula open the scoring  on assists from Jonny Scheer and Tim Ruf. Late into a deadlocked second period, Jonny Scheer found the back of the net, with Carson Schuldt adding a tally quickly after. Schuldt would add an insurance marker late in the third period to bring the score to 4-1 before the Hitmen responded with their final goal.

TBJ took on the New York Aviators on Sunday, in a wild back and forth game. Ryan Bahula, and Ronan Keenan each finished the game with 6 points a piece. Scheer added 2 goals, while Bryson Uhrig notched an empty net tally in the 8-5 win.

The much anticipated rematch of last season’s dramatic playoff semifinal between TBJ and the Northern Cyclones closed out the Winter Showcase this year. Ryan Bahula, once again, opened the scoring for Tampa. The Cyclones would respond with a pair of goals to take the lead before Max Weinstock found the back of the net to even the game at 2 a piece.  Unfortunately, that would conclude the scoring for TBJ as the Cyclones added 2 quick goals in the 3rd and took this meeting with a 4-2 win.

Ryan Bahula’s 8 point showcase weekend lead the young TBJ squad.
