The Tampa Bay Juniors Hockey Club completed back-to-back weekend sweeps, at both the Premier and Elite levels.
Premier- TBJ has now won 4 in a row, and picked up 9 points out of a possible 12 in the last 6 games. Tampa's recent success has moved them up the table, putting them only 1 point behind Charleston for second place in the division, with TBJ having 4 less games played.
Stanley Lucas lead the charge over the weekend with 7 points in 2 games against the Florida Jr. Blades. Lucas' effort Saturday saw him contribute to all 5 TBJ goals, including netting the game winner in OT, his second game winner in as many nights.
The newly assembled line of Connor Reed, Stanley Lucas, and Derek Walker accounted for all 5 goals in Saturday's tilt against the Blades. Walker picked up a pair of second period goals, while Reed netted the game tying goal late in the third frame.
A pair of goaltending clinics put on by Tyler Moschella and Evan Spinella helped TBJ come out with 2 victories on the weekend. Timely saves are what a coaching staff asks for, and both goaltenders delivered those at key points in the games.
Moschella turned aside 39 of 41 shots he saw, including 17 in the 3rd period alone, while TBJ tacked on two goals in the final 2 minutes to win the game. The line of Tim Ruf, Max Weinstock, and Thomas Zamba combined for both the game tying, and game winning goals coming off the stick of Zamba, and Ruf, respectively. Adam Custable and Noah Williams each tallied a goal and an assist in the game to help TBJ to a 4-2 victory.
Saturday, Spinella stopped all but one of the 21 shots he faced, as turning away all 3 shootout attempts he saw. Matthew Menkhaus was the lone shooter to find the back of the net in the shootout, as he came down and rang one off both posts and in.
The weekend sweep now puts TBJ Elite at 5 consecutive wins, and in sole possession of second place in the division.
TBJ Premier and Elite will both face off against the Florida Eels Friday at home at AdventHealth Center Ice.
